As we turn back our clocks, we begin to think about the upcoming holidays. We are humbled by the generosity of our community during this time of year. The Women’s Association of Hilton Head and St Francis Catholic Church provide gifts for our children, Hampton Hall’s Those of Prose bring books to brighten each child’s holiday. We continue to partner with Deep Well to provide weekend food for families in need and many of you – our friends and supporters continue to stop by with supplies and gifts for our Center.
Holiday Shopping with a Benefit
With the holiday shopping season upon us, many have given up the Black Friday adventures and look to on-line options to get our shopping done. The Children’s Center has two special ways that you can shop great deals and help support our children.
Our Holiday On-Line Auction is just around the corner. The auction will be open December 2 – 15, 2020 and offer a wide variety of gifts, golf, dining options and so much more. Shop for your family, friends or just for yourself! Bidding is done through our online site that can be accessed from The Children’s Center website. Mark your calendar and watch your email for opening day announcements and sneak peeks.
Another way to help is by connecting your Amazon purchases through Amazon Smile. Simply shop at Amazon Smile and select The Children’s Center as your charity of choice. Type “The Children’s Center Hilton Head” in the search bar to make your selection. To learn more about Amazon Smile, click here.
Harris Teeter’s Together in Education Program offers the opportunity to re-engage your support through our local grocery stores. Visit www.harristeeter.com and click on the “Together In Education” link under the “Community” tab to re-load The Children’s Center as your school of choice. Our school code is 5734. Note: Even if you were linked to The Children’s Center in the past, you must re-link annually at the beginning of each school year!
Happy Feet!
Rotary pays for the shoes with money earned by working at “The Heritage Golf Tournament” and mini-golf event. To help cover the cost, they receive $2,500 from Rotary District 7770 and match that with their funds. The children come to the Children’s Center on Saturday morning to select their new shoes. They try on the shoes to make sure they fit and then wear them home. They are so proud of their new shoes and their expressions of joy are priceless.
Sunset Rotary also supports two lending libraries here at our Center. They regularly refill and refresh the books in this wonderful little library so our children have access to books at home as well as at school.
A Great Start!
The Children’s Center is one of only two centers on Hilton Head that accepts infants. When mom is ready to return to work, one of the hardest choices she must make is who will care for her newborn. Most families work out of necessity because the economic climate dictates that there must be two breadwinners in order to pay the bills. Most working parents have four options for securing childcare.
The parents can work out a schedule that allows one of them to stay home, but this is increasingly difficult since most families rely on two incomes to stay financially afloat. Also, mothers are more likely than fathers to take time away from paid work to care for a child, which cuts into a mother’s lifetime earnings. A live-in or live-out nanny offers the convenience and flexibility of in-home care, but in addition to the expense of this type of childcare, there are several other downsides to employing a nanny. If she’s sick or quits, you have no immediate backup. A home daycare offers care by the same person in a homelike environment, but there’s often no immediate cover if the caregiver gets sick or is otherwise unavailable, and there’s no one to oversee or supervise the caregiver. A daycare center offers a more affordable and reliable option, with trained and certified staff and a social environment for your child.
Infant care is expensive, mainly due to the cost of an increased number of caregivers required for the care of babies. At the Children’s Center, we work hard to ensure top-quality care in addition to appropriate staff ratios. We offer the lowest weekly tuition with assistance available to all who qualify. Infant care is in high demand and The Children’s Center is proud to be a part of the solution.
