Literacy is Alive at our Center
No one knows better than a child the love of having your own book. Sharing quality time with their parents while they read together is almost as important as the reading skill itself. Many years ago, Temple Beth Yam built and donated a Lending Library to our Center. It is meant to be a “take a book, leave a book” program. Over the years, many donated books have come and gone from this library. In early 2019, the Sunset Rotary Club adopted this Lending Library which is located inside our lobby. They also built a new lending library for the outside that is accessible to anyone who visits our Center.
The Rotary members come by our Center every couple of weeks to refill the libraries and ensure there is a good mix of books from which to choose. They provide brand new books for our children to borrow, and if a child does not have a book of their own, they can keep it for their personal library. We are grateful to the Sunset Rotary for all they do here our Center in support of our children.
Summer’s End Spectacular
At Our Center, we had a wonderful summer filled with many special activities for all ages. Summer Campers visited the Island Rec Center for swimming lessons each week while all the other children were treated to a weekly water day. Water Day included sprinklers, hoses and lots of water fun. Many fun trips to Sweet Frog, Coastal Discover Museum, Northridge Cinema, Station 300, and The Sand Box.
Beaufort County Library is a great partner, they visited our Center every week, bringing the Book Mobile and stopping in our three-year-old classes to read to the children. Palmetto Electric brought their electric safety program to our older classrooms. And the highlight of the summer was our weekly visit from Kona Ice. Children could choose their special flavor each week and enjoyed sharing this special time with their classmates. Lots of red and blue tongues on Kona Ice Day!
We ended the summer with a school-wide carnival with everyone participating and enjoying school-wide fun! This summer, our Center was very busy. We had completely full enrolment in many classes. We welcomed back children that had graduated the past few years but returned for the summer. We wish all of our children an engaging and exciting new school year.
