About Us

WHY EARLY EDUCATION MATTERS
The socioeconomic achievement gap begins long before students enter elementary school. Investing in early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills can set a strong foundation. Early childhood education provides structure during cognitive and social development, which can minimize the socioeconomic achievement gap. Research from the National Institute for Early Education Research shows that high-quality early education programs can close up to 40% of the school readiness gap. Brain development in the area of language peaks at 9 – 10 months of age. Many higher cognitive functions (including soft skills) peak at 1 year of age. Through the first year of life, an infant’s brain creates 700 neuro connections per second.

SLIDING SCALE TUITION
The Children’s Center is unique in that we offer sliding-scale tuition, providing tuition assistance based on family income and family size.
For more than 80% of the over 100 families served by The Children’s Center, tuition assistance and ABC Scholarships means parents can remain in the workforce while their children receive impactful, high-quality early childhood education. With very few, if any, similar childcare options available, the Center is a crucial lynchpin in the framework of supportive resources that make it possible for workers in our community to remain employed and productive.
