Activities abound this summer at The Children’s Center. Our children are enjoying water day each week. All classrooms have time to cool down in sprinklers and with water games. Visits from the bookmobile and Kona Ice are weekly hits as well. The heat has kept us indoors a few days, but teachers are being creative and keeping everyone busy. To everyone who has supported our Building Blocks program to date – THANK YOU!
So Many Do So Much!
We want to share our thanks with everyone who gives so much to The Children’s Center. We appreciate all the generous donors to our Center. We are honored when friends and organizations choose to share their time, talent, and treasure. Recently we have received a number of gifts that assist us in providing quality service for our students. Thank you to:
Thank you for donating the funds to support our soccer program, giving children the opportunity to learn beginning soccer skills, but more importantly physical activity to help them stay healthy!
Thank you for refilling our art room with supplies. This is an ongoing need as our children love to create! Thank you Dunes Realty for making this possible!
When you “round up” your Palmetto Electric Bill, you are helping so many, including The Children’s Center. Thank you to Palmetto Electric who made a generous donation to assist with our Tuition Assistance program, the heart of our mission!
Who Works at The Children’s Center?
We welcome over 180 children each day to our Center. This takes a team of committed and compassionate individuals. At our Center, we have between 28 to 30 paid members of our staff. The majority of them are teachers, those people who work directly with the children every day. Each classroom has at least two teachers, one serving as lead and the other as an assistant. The Children’s Center follows ABC Quality ratios, which means our adult to child ratio is lower than required by the State of South Carolina.
Our teachers come from various backgrounds, some with many years of early childhood experience. Ms. Jenskins, a Pre-K teacher and our most senior teacher, has been with our Center since September of 1979. All lead teachers meet minimum credential requirements and many far exceed those requirements. Ms. Gadson, our Kitchen Manager, also has a long tenure, working for TCC since August of 1979. Ms. Nyisha was a child who attended our Center, has children who were students, and is now our 4K teacher. Her daughter is also a teacher.
Ms. Keisha greets everyone daily and manages several administrative duties with the assistance of Ms. Vaneasia. Ms. Tymeshia, our Education Manager, ensures only the highest quality programming in our classrooms. It takes a whole incredible team to make our Center a special place it is for children and families.
Volunteers are Special People
Volunteers don’t get paid because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. We have had a resurgence in the number of people who are visiting our Center on a regular basis. Some folks come daily, others come weekly and some come when they are in town. At The Children’s Center, we are honored to have so many people who care about children and visit the classrooms. Children and teachers alike enjoy having extra people in their classrooms to help and give love and attention to our children.
We welcome individuals and groups alike! During the summer, we welcome many mission groups, both local and from a distance. Rotary clubs also provide “hands-on” help throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us. We do background checks on all volunteers so there is a process to get started. We welcome high school students who need community service hours as well.
The Children’s Center is run by a volunteer Board of Trustees who give significant amounts of their time, talent, and treasure. WIthout the many people over the past 52 years who have given of themselves to enrich the lives of our community’s children, we could never have thrived this long.
