The Children’s Center, Inc. is a remarkable not-for-profit organization that provides the working families of Beaufort County affordable and accessible early childhood education and childcare services. Our high quality, high-impact educational child care programming; maintains a commitment of excellence while promoting the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each individual child in our care. We have continued this work since 1967 with the help and support of a dedicated staff, board and community of people that care about our community’s future generations.
The Center was founded when concerned community leaders Rev. Isaac Wilborn and Billie Hack (Bargain Box founder) recognized the need for a low-cost, safe, nurturing childcare for the children of working parents on Hilton Head Island. Since its early development, Hilton Head Island has grown from serving fifteen children to its current population of over two hundred children, many times carrying a wait list for care. The Children’s Center’s multicultural, bilingual early childhood education program is provided five days a week, year round, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our goal is to provide a learning environment that enhances the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic and creative development of each child. The Children’s Center is the only childcare facility in the Hilton Head that offers a sliding-fee scale structure.
The Children’s Center collaborates regularly with other community service agencies such as Deep Well, Bluffton Self Help, The Bargain Box, CODA, Hope Haven, Volunteers in Medicine, Second Helpings, Family Promise and others to bring support and assistance to the entire family.
Children receive breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack to feed their bodies, but more importantly they receive educational building blocks built on a foundation of love from qualified teachers who see each child’s individual potential.
